13U Baseball

Age Requirements:

13U is for players born in 2009 and 2010.

This division is tiered with both A and AA teams playing an interlocked season with the other Greater Victoria Baseball Association parks leading to the City Championships.

The season will start in mid-April and run to the end of June, with play-offs starting mid-June.

Games will be played not only at Carnarvon Park but also at other fields in the Greater Victoria area, including Gordon Head, Triangle, Peninsula, Esquimalt and Layritz. As a result, game slots and frequency will not be consistent on a weekly basis. Coaches will select game slots at a pre-season scheduling meeting and will inform families once the teams have been selected.

13U Prospects Team and Fees:

For those players in 13U A wanting an additional challenge, we have the Prospects Team (additional cost) where the top players from each park form a team and play against other parks from Victoria and up-Island. These games are double-headers played on Sundays from mid-April through May. This team will be determined with the help of assessment scores.

Fees

If your player is selected to play on a Prospects team, a new registration fee will be generated and sent to you by email (from our online store) for registration of your player onto the Prospects team. These nominal fees will cover additional costs incurred for field usage, umpires and uniforms.

13U AA Team:

New for 2022. Full season (Apr- Aug) 13U AAA Baseball - Victoria Seawolves

The GVBA is introducing a AAA program for Victoria baseball for U13 (kids born in 2009/2010). This program is designed to offer a higher level of competition at this age for the elite players across the province. There will be 2 equal teams being created to represent Victoria.

It is important that players in Victoria wishing to play 13U AAA baseball in 2022 register
their interest to 13useawolvescoordinator@gmail.com no later than Jan 7th, 2022

The Greater Victoria Baseball Association (GVBA) will be hosting open tryouts for 2022 13U AAA full season teams. All players interested in playing at this higher level are encouraged to attend. The tryouts will be held in February 2022. Times and locations will be announced as soon as the number of players registering for the tryouts is known.

*Players are still required to register for the 2022 season through their home catchment parks. Carnarvon registration is set to open on January 1st.

Details: BC (Minor) Baseball 13U AAA is a competitive full season program with an expanded game schedule beginning in mid-April and ending in early August. The 13U AAA schedule involves play against up-island, the lower mainland and interior teams.

The 13U AAA full season program will consist of two seasons â?? a spring season (Apr â?? Jun) under 13U fair play rules and a summer season (July and early Aug) under 9-man ball rules. It is anticipated that Victoria teams will only travel to the mainland once during the spring season (Apr-Jun) with additional trips likely in the summer season (July and early August). Victoria is required to form 2 equal and balanced teams based on historical registration numbers.

The 2022 13U AAA Head Coaches will be announced prior to the tryouts. Parents wishing to participate in coaching the team are encouraged to send their baseball resume and/or background to 13useawolvescoordinator@gmail.com by Jan 7th, 2022.

If you have any questions, please email them to 13useawolvescoordinator@gmail.com.

13U Summer Ball:

13U Summer Ball consists of three levels. Players can try out for city-wide assessments for A, AA, and AAA teams to represent Victoria at tournaments, Island Zones and Provincials.

Field Prep:

Near the start of the season, we will have our annual pre-season field preparation day. The more hands available to help, the more efficiently the work will get done.

Coaching:

The league is run entirely by volunteers, coaches included!  It is our goal to have a minimum of 2 coaches per team with 2 parent helpers (to help out at practices and games) and 1 Team Business Manager (to send email communications on behalf of the coaches) for each team at this level.

Each team will ultimately determine how they would like to structure their coaching staff, but the following is a rough guideline of what is entailed with each role:

Head Coach/Manager (1):

Assistant Coach (1):

  • Must submit a criminal record check prior to the start of the season.  Follow these instructions: http://www.carnarvonballclub.com/pages/crc
  • Must complete an online NCCP Level 1 coaching certification (cost to be reimbursed by the association): http://nccp.baseball.ca/register.php
  • Attend every practice and game
  • Assist with practices, drills
  • Run warm-ups
  • Base coaching and/or running the pitching machine

Team Business Manager (1):

  • Organize team volunteers for field prep and score-keeping
  • Liaise with Head Coach/Manager for team communication
  • Collect player availability for practices and games

 Parent Helper (2):

  • This is not an official coaching role, does not require a criminal record check and you will not get the glory of wearing a coaches shirt...but you will be greatly appreciated by parents, kids and coaches.
  • Involves bringing your glove and helping out at all practices and games.

Parent involvement:

ALL families are required to assist with team duties. These team duties consist of score-keeping, field prep at ALL SIX regular season home games in addition to concession duties. Don't worry! We will provide training opportunities for these duties, so no advanced experience is required.
