U11 Fastball

While continuing to be taught the fundamentals of Fastball U11 players and coaches begin to focus more on the game of Fastball itself and the rules. The South Vancouver Island (SVI) Minor Fastpitch Association U11 league has two tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2. The difference between Tier 1 and 2 is minimal with the main difference being the ability to use the Machine/Coach pitch for part of the season. In Tier 1, there is no Machine/Coach pitch.

Schedule
The season runs from early April and until the end of June.

In U11, there are 1-2 regular season games per week. League games are usually on Saturdays from 11:00am-1:00pm or 1:00-3:00pm and Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm or 6:30-8:30pm.

Practice schedules vary from year to year and depend on field and coach preference, but in the past there have been 1-2 practices per week.

U11 teams often play in three weekend tournaments: the "2x2" in May, the Langford U10 tournament in early June and the U9 District Finals (playoffs) near the end of June.

Initially, U11 teams will be given a schedule from SVI that runs until a weekend tournament in mid-May (called the "2x2" with 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday). These 4 games are considered part of league play. After completing this tournament, teams may be reshuffled from one tier to the other (for example, teams from Tier 1 may be moved down to Tier 2 and teams from Tier 2 may be moved up to Tier 1). This reshuffling will re-balance the teams with varying abilities.

Age Requirements
In Spring 2022, U11 Fastball is for players born in 2011 and 2012 and we anticipate having 2 teams (Tier 1 & Tier 2). It is possible for younger players to join, if space is available. Contact carnarvonfastballregistrar@gmail.com if you would like to request your younger child play at this level.

Team Selection
We will make every effort to accommodate any friend or coaching request, but no guarantees can be made. Priority will be given to past Carnarvon players first, then on a first-come-first-served basis.

Uniforms
Players will receive a team uniform shirt and a hat that they get to keep at the end of the season (there is no uniform deposit). Please ensure that they wear it to each game. Players are required to wear black ball pants.

Equipment

Required equipment:

  • batting helmet with a strap and cage
  • glove
  • cleats (recommended, but not mandatory, baseball or soccer cleats are fine)
  • infield face guards for pitchers (recommended for all players, especially new players)
  • ball pants

Please ensure that you mark the player's name on everything. A white label or masking tape works well on the outside of the batting helmet and handwritten on labels in shirts, glove and hats.
